Dr. Sharon has been a board certified Allergist/Immunologist for almost 30 years. He is trained to assess and treat a variety of allergic and immunologic problems in both adult and pediatric patients. He has been at the Bloomingdale location for 25 years. Under his expertise Asthma and Allergy Center has become a full spectrum Allergy/Immunology center for patient care.
Dr. Sharon is the physician other physicians always refer to not only for treating standard allergic diseases but also for diagnosing all related illnesses and immunologic diseases. Our clinic is the major center for immune deficiency in the western suburbs.
His current research has been the interaction of the immune and allergic system with the neurologic system resulting in autoimmune neurologic damage. This damage can present as Depression, Anxiety, OCD, Schizophrenia, Chronic Fatigue (systemic exertion intolerance disease), and Fibromyalgia. He has championed the idea that the human microbiome (the body’s interaction with microbiologic agents) conditions and balances the patient’s immunity to microbes and poisons, and thus regulates autoimmune responses that can affect the central nervous system (CNS). Microbes, both invaders (pathogenic) and normal flora (commensal), can induce autoantibodies that bind to the brain and affect behavior in susceptible patients. Interventions that correct the microbial balance or diminish autoantibody binding may be effective in diverse neuropsychiatric conditions mediated by autoimmunity. He is dedicated to his patients and is passionate in the use of current concepts to affect real improvements in their outcomes.
Dr. Sharon is considered a leader amongst his peers. He is currently President of Medical Staff at Amita-GlenOaks, and on the Board of Directors for the entire Amita Health System.
